Worship

Listed below are a whole host of opportunities to participate in worship ministry through the local body known as First Baptist Suffolk. Our goal is the lead people to be worshipers of God in “spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24), and in as we worship to do so with skill and excellence.

Worship Choir – This opportunity is for adult members of First Baptist Suffolk who love to sing but more than that have a desire to worship the Lord. They lead in worship every Sunday at the 11AM Worship Service and present seasonal musicals at Christmas and Easter. Being able to carry a tune is helpful, but music reading abilities are not necessary. It is necessary however to love the Lord and be faithful to rehearsals. Rehearsals are every Wednesday evening from 7:30 – 9:00 PM.

Youth Choir - Youth Choir is for 7th –12th grade students. Rehearsals are Sundays at 5:30 PM. This group sings occasional for Worship Service. Usually during the 6:30 evening service.

Youth Ensemble – This is for students in the 9th -12th grades. This group is selected based on their musical abilities, faithfulness to other musical and youth activities, and willingness to make the time commitments necessary to work towards excellence in worship ministry. Rehearsals are every Sunday at 5:00 PM.

Orchestra – This group is for instrumentalists who have experience in band or orchestra. It is open to those in middle school through adult who have played in band or orchestra; or who have taken lessons so as to achieve proficient skill in instrumental music. Skill levels for this ministry may vary, but players need to have achieved at least an intermediate level of musicianship on their particular instrument. This group plays at all 11:00 AM worship services and participates in seasonal musicals with the worship choir.

Rhythm Section – Our worship services are greatly enhanced by those who play instruments that are used in the Praise Band. Guitars, bass guitar, drums, percussion, keyboard, and piano are all used to enhance the congregational worship as well as accompany the Worship Choir when then sing on Sundays and as they present seasonal musicals. Rehearsals are Fridays at 5:00 PM in the Sanctuary.

Praise Dance – This opportunity is for students in grades 7 – 12. They rehearse and Sunday afternoons at 4 PM.

Choir Chimes – This is for children in grades 2 – 6. The group is limited to spots available. Contact the music ministry office for further details.

Children’s Choirs – We provide graded choirs for children from age 3 through 6th grade. Our goal is provide a setting where they can come to know the Lord, grow in their faith and then provide a musical setting where they learn to worship Him with excellence and skill. There are a variety of musical activities and teaching experiences involved that are directed specifically at the ages of the children involved. This ministry is a teaching ministry that does have some performance aspects to it as children get older.

Young Musicians – children in grades 4 through 6

Music Makers – children in grades 1 through 3

Cherub Choirs – there are two cherub choirs. One is for ages 3 through 4K and the second is for children in Kindergarten

Joyfulaires – This group is for senior adult who love to sing and like to use that as a ministry tool. They might sing at nursing homes or other community groups anywhere from three to five times a year.

Solos – Soloists are selected from both students and adults who are actively participating in areas of worship ministry. That might be singing in a choir or teaching in a particular area of worship ministry.
