It has been so fulfilling to be in Genesis 1-11 this Fall. Already, after two chapters, we are seeing things that are so vital and relevant for our world today.
We have seen the glory of God’s perfect design in chapters 1-2. Now, in chapter 3, we will see how the world has become so broken.
We will take a couple of weeks in this chapter. This Sunday, we will look at Genesis 3:1-15, as God asks the question, “Where Are You?”
That is a question many of us are asking about our world today. In the past couple of weeks, we have seen a major Christian leader, Charlie Kirk, murdered in cold blood – part of a pattern of leftist violence perpetrated against Christians, conservatives, and supporters of Israel.
Yet the assassination of this 31-year-old husband and father has stirred something powerful in the American people. Satan has overplayed his hand. What he planned for evil is being used by our sovereign God for good…for the saving of many lives (Genesis 50:20).
There were already indications of a turning to Jesus in our culture, and this event has only accelerated it. Seeing some 277,000 people turn out for Charlie’s memorial service, and many millions watching around the world, is amazing. And what did they see? Figures at the highest levels of our government sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ! We have never seen anything like it before.
God is moving, and we need to move with Him. Let us “keep in step with the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25). We are seeing more people visiting our church than ever before. Let us be welcome them with the love of Jesus! We are seeing more people seeking Christ than ever. Let us be faithful to share the good news of Jesus with them!
These are exciting days in which to live. Thank God that He has allowed us to live “in such a time as this.” Let us be strong and courageous, for the glory of our King.
A fundamental part of that is gathering together on the Lord’s Day. I’ll see you then, with a Bible in my hand. Reach out and invite a friend to join you.
By His Grace, For His Glory, To The Nations,
Dr. Thurman Hayes, Jr.
