Pastor's Post- June 10, 2025

This Sunday we will be in John 11:45-12:11, as we talk about what it means to have “Fragrant Devotion” to Christ.  What a  beautiful passage this is, and what a call to us as disciples!

This week Melissa and I will represent you as messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention, in Dallas.  This meeting is historic, in that it is the 100th Anniversary of two incredibly important things in SBC life:  The Baptist Faith & Message and the Cooperative Program.

  • The Baptist Faith & Message keeps the SBC grounded doctrinally.  It is our confession of faith as Southern Baptists.
  • The Cooperative Program helps to support the SBC missionally.  It is Southern Baptists pooling our resources to carry out our Lord’s Great Commission.

Those are the two biggest reasons God has blessed and continues to bless FBC Suffolk – our commitment to believe and preach the Bible, and our commitment to the Great Commission.  It is a blessing to belong to a family of churches (the SBC) that is in line with who we are at FBC.

I’ll have much more to say about how the meeting in Dallas turns out in next week’s column.  But before then, I’ll see you this Sunday, which is Father’s Day.  Read over the text and be in prayer as we look forward to it…and invite a friend to join you.

By His Grace, For His Glory, To The Nations,

Dr. Thurman Hayes, Jr.
