Serve the city 2019

Serve the City is a local mission event where we show the love of Jesus to our community.  Several local churches are working together in this effort to serve others and to impact our city.

We will partner with the following public schools to provide labor for projects:

  • King’s Fork High School
  • King’s Fork Middle School
  • Elephant’s Fork Elementary School
  • Lakeland High School
  • Forest Glen Middle School
  • Nansemond Parkway Elementary School
  • Booker T. Washington Elementary School
  • Kilby Shores Elementary School

We will paint walls, clean classrooms and desks, organize books, wash windows and landscape.  We will spend time with principals, teachers, and custodians to pray with them and for them.  The school’s system will provide the materials and we will provide the free labor.

In addition to the school projects we will make bed rolls for homeless people utilizing plastic bags.  We will serve meals to our First Responders, The Keim Center, Suffolk Public Schools Transportation Shop, and Nursing Homes.  We are partnering with Neighborhoods for Christ and will go door-to-door in the city to share the Gospel and pray for our community.  We will do service projects for our wounded warriors and for our   servicemen and women.

Please register by Sunday, May 26, 2019 to allow for T-shirt orders to be processed.  The T-shirt fee is $10.00 and all  workers need to wear one daily.  Lunches will be provided for workers.  Nursery will be available for workers’ children ages infant-5 years old.  Please register at the registration table in the Welcome Center.

Supper will be served daily.  Prices are as follows: $5.00 for adults, $2.50 for children ages 4-11, and free for children ages 3 and under.  There is a family cap of $20.00.

The kick-off service will be held on Sunday, July 7th at 6:00pm at Southside Baptist Church.  Evening services will be held and will be open to everyone, regardless if they work or not.  Local Pastors of participating churches will speak each evening at a worship service.  The Carr Trrouble Garage Band will provide all worship music Sunday, July 7- Thursday, July 11.
