Pastor Post - September 20, 2017

This week we will continue in our new series on Proverbs, which we’re calling The Way of Wisdom. We’ll dig into one of the most famous passages in Proverbs, and in the whole Bible, as we explore Proverbs 3:1-8, “The Wisdom That Blesses.”

As you read over the text in advance, consider the following:

  • Note in verse 1 how God addresses us. He is speaking to “my son” or “my child.” What does his adoption of us say about his love for us, and how does his love for us mean we can trust him

  • God tells us in verse 1 not to “forget” his teachings? Why does he need to say that? How can we make sure we don’t get spiritual amnesia?

  • Think about the well-known verses 5-6. What does it mean to trust God “with all your heart?” How can you know if you are trusting him that way? What does it mean to “lean” on your own understanding? What does it mean to “acknowledge him in all your ways?” What are the “straight paths” he promises to lead us on?

  • Notice the pattern of counsel and incentives in these verses. In other words, God gives us his wise counsel to help us, and then tells us how following his counsel will bless us.

I’m excited about this series! See you Sunday, as we pray, praise, celebrate baptism, and dig into God’s Word.
