Pastor Post - February 20, 2024

For too many Christians, evangelism is something we know we should  be doing, but don’t get around to doing!  It is so easy in our busy lives to put evangelism on the shelf.  Adding to that, the devil tries to plant all kinds of excuses in our minds for not sharing the good news of Jesus.

But our Lord has commanded us, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men” (Mark 1:17).  So if we aren’t becoming fishers of men, are we really following Jesus?

No Christian has the right to “opt out” of the task of sharing the good news of Jesus.  And why would we ever want to do so?  Isn’t it a joy to share good news…the BEST news?

While our church constantly encourages evangelism, there are times in the life of the church where it needs to be a special focus.  The month of March will be one of those times for us.  This year, Easter is on March 31.  We decided to take the first 30 days of March to intensely pray for lost people in our lives, with a view toward sharing the gospel with them and inviting them to church.  You will receive a prayer guide to help you do this.  In addition…

  • We will have a joint Sunday School time on March 10, where I will lead a seminar on helping you to share your faith in a natural way.
  • There will be special prayer times within Sunday School classes for lost people and our role in sharing the good news with them.
  • For the next few weeks, the sermons will deal with these issues as well. This Sunday, Pastor David will lead off, followed by Jeff Mingee on March 3.  I will follow on March 10, March 17, and March 24.  Then on Easter Sunday, March 31, you are encouraged to come with friend who needs the Lord, as the gospel of our risen Lord is proclaimed!  After that, we will get back to our series on 2 Timothy, and finish chapters 3 and 4.

It is going to be an exciting season at FBC-Suffolk as we lead up to Resurrection Day!  Who’s your one?

By His Grace, For His Glory, To The Nations,
