Pastor Post - January 11, 2017

By now, hopefully, you have come out of “hibernation” from the first winter storm of 2017! We are blessed to have nice and warm places to stay in such times, but everyone is not so fortunate. As it turns out, FBC’s week to do the CAPS overnight stay coincided with the snow and severe temperatures. I am so grateful for the volunteers who came in to serve our guests all weekend, as well as several other nights, and to Pastor David for his coordination of this effort. Rather than simply doing the normal overnight stays, during the storm we allowed homeless families to stay on campus during the day as well. This was a great ministry of love and compassion!

It will be great to get back to normal this weekend. We will simply move the message that was scheduled for the 8th to the 15th and keep right on moving. Again, the text will be Hebrews 10:19-25, as we talk about “Cherishing the Lord’s Day.” What is so special about worship? Why do we need it? How does it relate to our growth in Christ? How does it relate to the access that we have to the Father through Christ? How does it relate to faith, hope, and love? We’ll cover these things on this Lord’s Day.

Don’t let the storm cancellations set you back or off course for a great 2017. This is the New Year. It is time to evaluate priorities and go all out for Jesus. That begins with showing up for Worship and Bible Study this Sunday. I’ll see you then!

By His Grace, For His Glory, To The Nations,

Dr. Thurman Hayes, Jr.
