This week we will be in Acts 10, talking about “How God Breaks Down Barriers.”
This is a crucial chapter for understanding Acts, and how the gospel broke through to the Gentile world. This was always the plan of God. As He promised to Abraham in Genesis 12, “Through you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” In other words, the messiah would come through Israel, and bless the rest of the world. That is what was happening in Acts 10 as the gospel came to the Gentiles.
It’s a fascinating chapter on a human level, as well. God gives both Peter and Cornelius visions, and then brings them together for an unforgettable encounter. We’ll talk about all this on Sunday.
This Sunday is also Father’s Day. The Bible commands us to “honor your Father and your Mother.” We will do that on Sunday, as we pray for dads.
Thanks for praying for me this week as I attended the Southern Baptist Convention, as well as an IMB Trustee meeting. It is a blessing to be a part of the Southern Baptist family. Truly, we can do so much more for missions, when we do it together with other churches. Our church has done that ever since the SBC began, in 1845.
See you on Sunday as we study Acts 10 and celebrate Father’s Day together!
By His Grace, For His Glory, To The Nations,
Dr. Thurman Hayes, Jr.
