Pastor Post - November 9, 2022

This week we will look at a dark episode in David’s life.  The message is, “Great Sin…Greater Grace,” from 2 Samuel 8-12 and Psalm 51.

Scripture never whitewashes the lives of men and women.  It includes their sins as well as their virtues, their failures as well as their victories.  That’s for a couple of reasons:

  • We need to look to the Lord, “fixing our eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:2).  He alone is the sinless Savior we need.
  • We need to understand that if a man like David can commit such heinous sins, we too are capable of such things, if we let our lives drift from the Lord.

So part of what we will talk about Sunday is the danger of drift. But we will not just talk about the great sin of David, but the greater grace that is offered to all who will truly repent and turn to the Lord.

This is such an incredibly powerful text.  David was in so many ways a model leader.  We will see that in chapters 8 and 9.  We will see that his fall in chapters 11 and 12 is something that can happen to any of us if we don’t stay close to the Lord. But David is also a model of how to repent.  And we will see that in Psalm 51.

Read over the text, pray for the Spirit to work on Sunday, and invite a friend to join you!  See you then…
